It is highly recommended that you take the placement test before enrolling in a class. This test is not for credit. It is intended to determine the appropriate level of Spanish for you. Early and correct placement will save you the trouble of having to make class changes during the hectic first week of school. Some students think that enrolling into a lower level class is a way to get easy language credits. However, according to the Center for Language Studies at Yale University “students who needlessly sit through low-level courses fail to develop proper study habits and actually end up doing worse in language courses later on.” Being in the appropriate course level is the beginning to successful language learning.
