Free Resume & Cover Letter Critique Services
Individual assistance is also available for developing your job search skills to include free resume development assistance, templates, or evaluation and advice on improving your existing resume. All services are available at no cost to students and the general public.
General Critique Policy for all Customers
You may email or drop off your existing resume to us before 2pm Monday through Friday and generally receive a critique response the same day. Documents received after 2pm will generally be returned or ready for pick up after 10am the following normal business day. Emailed documents must be in Word format.
Specific Policies for Students Submitting Documents as a Class Assignment
Due to the volume of documents that we receive, Coastal Students submitting resumes or cover letters as part of a required class assignment must indicate in the subject line of their email the instructor’s last name, course/section and whether it is seated (S) or online (O) in order for the center to be able to properly process the critique request.
Student documents will generally be returned to the instructor for distribution unless prior arrangements have been made with the Career Center Manager. Online students will receive documents returned by email. Students are responsible for proper routing and labeling of assignments sent to the Center by email attachment and allowing a reasonable time frame for the document review process before the class assignment deadline. Students should be aware that the Career Center does not assign grades for class assignments. Students are encouraged to read assignment requirements set forth by their instructors to ensure that they are met when completing activities. Specific rubrics used by the Career Center to assess documents may be accessed by students and faculty under the Virtual Career Center.
It is recommended that you obtain more than one opinion before you make revisions to your documents. Because the review process is subjective, having more than one person review your documents is a sound practice.
The College offers a variety of Human Resources Development Classes to help you develop needed skills to compete for employment vacancies and many are available free of charge for qualified participants.
Perfect Interview™, is available in the Career Center, as a computer-based innovative learning tool that you can use to enhance your job interviewing skills and develop an edge over the competition. Perfect Interview™ creates a compelling and realistic “simulated interview” experience where you are asked challenging questions and must respond, just as you would in a real job interview. You can repeat each question as often as you like, and you can even see examples of how someone else might answer. And, if you get stuck, there’s a built-in Interview Coach to offer help.
