Employment Skills Training/HRD

Please refer to the current Continuing Education Schedule of Classes for upcoming dates and times.

The Human Resources Development (HRD) program is designed to educate and train individuals who are unemployed and underemployed. It provides training, counseling, and assistance with placement in either employment or additional education. The registration fee is waived, making the classes free of charge to people who qualify. Classes are offered on campus and Tarawa Terrace. After you complete 80 hours of HRD classes, you may be eligible for a scholarship for another class.

Basic Computer Keyboarding

Students will learn basic computer skills with a focus on improving keyboarding abilities. Throughout the course, students will also improve their employment skills.

Using Technology in Your Job Search

This course is designed to teach you how to market yourself in a tough economy using the most popular and up-to-date office programs. Learn how to use technology to locate employment opportunities, complete online applications and use the internet for effective networking in the current job market.

Hunting & Landing a Job

Get ready for your job search! You will learn to write an impressive resume, interview effectively and confidently, and find unadvertised jobs.

Getting a Job in Today’s Economy (Online)

Learn the latest techniques in organizing your job search, writing your resume and interviewing flawlessly. (Basic Windows knowledge and a working computer required)

Take Control of Your Money

This course is focused on simple budgeting skills and tools to assist you in taking control of your personal finances. Students will develop a working budget to enable them to make positive decisions with their money.

Charting Your Course to Success

This class is designed for those who have been out of the workforce and those looking for a career change. Emphasis will focus on transferable skills, skills assessment, and career possibilities.  Students will set goals and establish a career plan.

The Art of Networking using Social Media

This course will educate students in the new networking opportunities afforded by social media.  Students will learn the use and benefits of various digital communication platforms such as LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter in connecting to employment opportunities. The class will discuss security pros and cons for these sites.

Success by Choice

This course is designed to teach soft skills for the business environment.  It provides key success factors in accomplishing business goals, building self-confidence, acquiring good communication and listening skills, using sound judgment to problem solve and the successful and wise use of social media.  Students will learn how to tap the power of their emotional intelligence and use the lessons of their past to shape their future.

Direct Care Worker Basics

This course will include skills development in home management and personal care tasks using limited assistance.  Topics covered will include infection control, personal care, safety, professionalism, home management, effective communication and job keeping skills, plus CPR.
