Emergency Medical Services (EMS Continuing Ed)

The North Carolina Medical Care Commission has named Coastal Carolina Community College an Advanced EMS Educational Institution. Coastal is qualified to teach all levels of initial and continuing education courses, for all levels of EMS credentials. The college is also affiliated with the American Heart Association as a Community Training Center, and the National Academy of Emergency Dispatch as an Approved Teaching Institute.

Registration fees are waived for volunteer firefighters, local fire department personnel, volunteer rescue and lifesaving department personnel (volunteer EMS), local rescue & lifesaving department personnel (paid EMS), and municipal, county, or state law enforcement officers. Students must submit on official letterhead a document that includes the chief of their department’s contact information and signature. This letter must be presented at the time of registration for each qualifying class, confirming the student is either a volunteer or an employee in good standing.

State EMT Exam Pass Rate

Coastal’s EMT program has an enviable  96.3% first-time, pass rate on the North Carolina EMT certification exam which places our program in the TOP 3 community colleges of the 58 in the state.  Additionally Coastal is among the top 5 of 58 five North Carolina Community Colleges for how many EMT students successfully complete our EMT class.  

National Registry Exam Pass Rate

Coastal also has an 88% first time pass rate for the National Registry of EMT’s certification exam.  The average pass rate on this exam across all states is 68%
