Grammar Lessons

Review of the Basic Parts of Speech
Basic review of the parts of speech in English and Afghan including nouns, pronouns, verbs, adjectives, etc…This review will occur frequently throughout the course.

Sentence Construction
Guidance for sentence arrangement in both English and Afghan are presented throughout the course.

Afghan Language Lessons

Standard Greetings
An overview of greetings used by native speakers in Afghan and in proper usage and their cultural meaning.  Simple practical application exercises are used in this module.

Introductions           
Detailing of how to introduce one or more people to a native speaker using appropriate language and cultural references.  Simple practical application exercises are used in this module.

Map Reading Skills
Training on how to ask questions and translate information about maps in Afghan, as well as practice in giving and receiving directions in the language.  In-depth practical application exercises are used in this module.

Numbers and Numeric Functions
Academic instruction on cardinal and ordinal numbers, fractions, decimals and percentages are presented.  In-depth practical application exercises are used in this module.

Time Concepts
Numbers concepts continued through time-telling and vocabulary lessons for the years, months, weeks, and days of the week.  Islamic calendar and holidays are discussed in this module.

Rendering Aid
Guidance for conversing with stranded motorists or injured persons and vocabulary for acquiring proper assistance. 

Cultural Lessons

Throughout the course, cultural points, references and current events will be pointed out or discussed by the instructors as it relates to a course objective.  Below are some examples of what may be included in your instruction if time allows.   If you have any questions about Afghan culture, please feel free ask you instructor when s/he has designated class time for cultural topics. 

Family Life
Insight into family structure and how each functions in Afghan society.

Food and Table Customs (Time Permitting)
An overview of greetings used by native speakers in Afghan and their cultural significance.

Islam
A lesson about the influence of the Islamic religion on language, culture and the people of the Afghanistan region.

Military Specific

Ranks and Services
Introduction of ranks according to military hierarchy, the military service branches, and their Afghani translations.

Unit Sizes and Structure
Presentation of units according to size and military structure and Afghan equivalents.

Weaponry
Exploration of commonly used or encountered weapons, Afghan translations, and cultural significances.

Military Occupations
Investigation of common military jobs and Afghan translations.

Check Point Terminology
Instruction of terms commonly used in a checkpoint scenario accompanied by a practical application task using the vocabulary. 

Medical Terminology
Examination of terms commonly practiced within the medical profession.  This lesson is usually reserved for Navy medical personnel.
