Course Objectives
- Presentation of 160 hours of quality Afghan instruction over a 30-day period.
- Distribution of classroom instruction over 20, eight-hour class days.
- Acquisition of a Survival Level comprehension in listening and speaking (0+ on the ILR Proficiency Scale. For more information about proficiency ratings please visit www.ilr.gov).
- Introduction of military specific vocabulary throughout the course.
- Exposure to approximately 1200 vocabulary items with a working knowledge of 500-700 words, depending on individual ability.
- Comprehension of numbers 0-10,000, including script recognition (numerals only). Usage of ordinals, decimals, and percentages.
- Ability to tell time in Afghan and have a familiarity with basic fractions.
- Presentations of simple military scenarios, prepared either in or outside of class, in Afghan.
- Understanding of English and Afghan grammatical concepts such as nouns, verbs, pronouns, sentence subject and object, preposition, syntax and sentence structure.
- Conversation on general subjects such as job, weather, family, and personal background.
- Giving and receiving of directions in Afghan.
