General Information
In this class, students will learn to draw blood specimens from patients for the purpose of testing and analyzing blood. Students will practice procedures in the College laboratory prior to attending clinical training.
Each year we usually offer 4 twelve-week phlebotomy classes with an enrollment of 12 students in each class.

Instructors:
Our instructors are certified by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), as is the program.

In order to enroll, students must take the free Tests of Adult Basic Education (TABE) test** and score:
- 12.9 in TABE Reading
- 8.0 in TABE Math (Allow approximately an hour to take these two pretests.)
** TABE placement testing is available in the Academic Studies Center, Kenneth B. Hurst Continuing Education Building, room 200.
Hours are Monday – Thursday, 7:30 am – 6:00 pm; and Friday 7:30 am – 2:00 pm.
Picture ID is required to test. No appointment is needed.
Financial Assistance
Financial assistance through the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) is available on a limited basis for students who qualify. These funds may assist with registration fees, books, and required supplies. To apply, visit the Kenneth B. Hurst Continuing Education Building, room 109 or call (910) 938-6309.
Enrollment
Upon receiving qualifying scores, students will be eligible for enrollment and may report to the administrative registration window in the Kenneth B. Hurst Continuing Education Building to prepay for the next class. Payment may be made by cash, check, money order, MasterCard, VISA, American Express, or Discover. Thank you for including your driver’s license number on checks.
NOTE!
Generally the Phlebotomy class will fill up on the first day of open registration. Call (910) 938-6294 for that date and time.

National Certification Information
Upon successful completion of the phlebotomy course, students will be eligible to take the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) National Phlebotomy Certification Examination.
