EMT Basic Class Registration
Train to be a pre-hospital care provider. 
Coastal's Emergency Medical Technician Basic class prepares students for the NC and national certification exams. These classes will open doors for individuals to work in Onslow County, throughout the state and nationally in private and public ambulance services.
Fee: $175
(waived if member of volunteer fire or rescue squad)

Course
This course will follow the guidelines established by the NC Office of EMS. The curriculum for the EMT educational program shall be the 1994 release of the United States Department of Transportation (US DOT) National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) EMT-Basic Course: National Standard Curriculum and the Supplemental Airways Modules for EMT-Basic; NSC.

Prerequisites
- High School Diploma, Adult High School diploma, or GED. A copy of the diploma or transcript is required at registration.
- TABE test for reading comprehension score of 10.0 or higher (this score required to test for North Carolina EMT Credential). For more information about the TABE placement test, refer to the current Continuing Education course schedule.
Hours
- Day courses – 176 Hours, Monday - Friday, 7:30am–4:30pm, 22 training days
- Night courses – 2 nights a week (Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday ), 6:00pm–10:00pm, 5 months, last class session is a Saturday that meets 8:00am–5:00pm.
- Saturday courses, 176 hours, 8:00am–5:00pm, 5 months.

Registration Fee
- $175.00 plus $0.25 insurance fee
- Registration fees are waived for volunteer fighfighters, local fire department personnel, volunteer rescue and lifesaving department personnel (volunteer EMS), local rescue & lifesaving department personnel (paid EMS), and municpal, county, or state law enforcement officers. Students must submit on official letterhead a document that includes the chief of their department's contact information and signature. This letter must be presented at the time of registration for each qualifying class, confirming the student is either a volunteer or an employee in good standing.
