Coastal Carolina Community College also offers courses that are prerequisite courses or courses to support renewal of EMS credentials. Additional training is provided in other areas of importance to the EMS community. Most of these classes are offered on a periodic basis as needed.
Anatomy and Physiology
This course is designed to provide students with a basic understanding of the structure and function of the human body. This course meets the prerequisite for the EMT-Paramedic program. A textbook is required.
BLS Continuing Education
This training is three-hour blocks of instruction offered monthly designed to meet all the objectives of the EMT Refresher National Standard Curriculum, every two years. These are offered as individual blocks of instruction at various rescue squads and fire departments throughout the county or as a 6-month block of instruction at the College. The College offering is a contact hour class, meaning you can join at anytime.
EMS Instructor Methodology
The purpose of this course is to provide students who are clinically competent in a specific EMS content area with the instructional knowledge, resources, and skills to effectively deliver quality EMS education. This course covers the objectives of the U.S. Department of Transportation's EMS Instructor Training Program: National Standard Curriculum Course (2002). Prerequisite: EMT credential. 64 hours.
EMT Refresher
This course is designed to provide the training necessary to allow students to stay current with the ever-changing field of pre-hospital medicine. It also will meet the objectives required to allow the student to re-credential at the EMT level. This course will cover the objectives of the 1996 Release of the US DOT National Highway Traffic Safety Admin. EMT-Basic Refresher Course: National Standard Curriculum and the 2002 Supplemental Airway Modules for EMT-Basic: NSC. This class meets in conjunction with the EMT Classes. Prerequisite: EMT credential. 72 hours.
International Trauma Life Support
This course is designed to provide pre-hospital professionals with the knowledge and skills required to treat the critical trauma patient. This course is taught to the ITLS Inc. standards. This course is offered at the basic level for EMTs or first responders, and the advanced level for paramedics, nurses and doctors. A textbook is required.
Weapons of Mass Destruction/Bio-terrorism
