Fire personnel may attend continuing education courses and have the registration fee waived as long as the chief of their agency signs the waiver form certifying that the training is job related.  Students must bring the signed form to the first class meeting to be allowed to enroll.

Firefighter Certification: Levels I & II


Coastal Carolina Community College serves as a delivery agency for the North Carolina Fire and Rescue Commission.  Firefighter I and II is offered as a combined section.  This affords the student of a timely completion of his or her certification. Course listings can be found under the brochure information below.  This program will allow candidates the opportunity to understand and perform skills needed by firefighters.  These courses are offered independently, at the College campus and at local fire stations throughout Onslow County.  Students are encouraged to be active members of the fire and rescue services before taking these classes.  Being an active member of an agency best fulfills physical agility and personal protective equipment requirements.  Students will have performed approximately 336 hours of training upon completion of certification.

North Carolina Driver/Operator & Emergency Vehicle Driver Certification


Coastal Carolina Community College serves as a delivery agency for the North Caroline Fire and Rescue Commission.  The Driver Operator and Emergency Vehicle Operator is a certification course that is completed in three sections: Emergency Vehicle Driver, Driver Operator Pumper, and Driver Operator Aerial.  These programs will prepare the firefighter to operate mobile equipment operated by fire and rescue agencies.  Students will have performed approximately 214 hours of training upon completion of certification.

North Carolina Hazardous Materials Responder Level I


Coastal Carolina Community College serves as a delivery agency for the North Carolina Fire and Rescue Commission.  The Hazardous Materials Responder Level I is a combination course consisting of both classroom and practical exercises that meet the objectives set forth in NFPA 472, Professional Qualifications for Hazardous Material Responders.  This certification is provided to those individuals who are first responders for fire and rescue agencies.  Students will have completed approximately 40 hours of training upon receiving certification.

North Carolina Rescue Technician Certification


Coastal Carolina Community College serves as a delivery agency for the North Carolina Fire and Rescue Commission.  This course meets the objectives as stated in NFPA 1006, Professional Qualification for Rescue Technicians.  Students will study and perform technical rescue techniques needed for challenging events.  Candidates will gain knowledge in command and control of scenes, and perform various automobile extrication techniques.  Students will have completed approximately 129 hours of training at the completion of their certification.
