  1. What level of computer/Internet knowledge must I have?

Basic knowledge of the Internet and of word processing software is necessary, including familiarity with the procedures for sending and receiving e-mail with attachments.

  1. What equipment do I need to take an online class?

You must have a computer, an Internet service provider, and an e-mail account. In addition, there may be software that is required by your instructor.

  1. Recommendations for using Blackboard
  • Operating System: Windows 95, 98, 2000, NT, ME, or XP. Macintosh OS9 or OSX
  • Hardware: Minimum of 64 MG of RAM (recommended 512 MG) and at least 1G of free disk space
  • Software: Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat Reader
  • Browser: Internet Explorer 5.5 or higher; Netscape 4.78 or higher
  • JavaScript & Cookies enabled
  • Modem or Internet Connection: 56K modem or other high speed connection such as DSL or Cable
  1. How do I get to my online class?

To get to your class, you need to open your web browser, and in the address box type: classes.coastalcarolina.edu, then press Enter or click the “go” button. You can also get to your class through our College website by selecting Distance Learning from the Quick Links on the side menu.

  1. Who do I contact if I cannot gain access to my online course?

If you are experiencing problems accessing your online course, please contact the Helpdesk at (910) 938-6123 or send them an e-mail by selecting the HelpDesk icon in the toolbar at the top of any of Coastal's web pages.

  1. How do I register for an online class?

Registration for students who have been admitted to the College and want to take online courses is handled in the same manner as traditional course registration. Please contact the Division of Student Services at (910) 938-6394 for additional information on registration.

  1. How do I contact my Instructor?

You need to e-mail your instructor and let them know that you made it to class. This should be done on the first day of the semester, after 12:00 noon.

Unless otherwise noted, your instructor's e-mail address is their last name and first initial followed by @coastalcarolina.edu. For example: Amy Jones' e-mail address would be jonesa@coastalcarolina.edu. You can also look up an instructor's e-mail address and telephone number in the College Directory.

  1. How do I purchase my textbooks?

You may order these textbooks through The College Store at Coastal Carolina Community College. You can order your books online or by calling the bookstore at (910) 938–6295. The bookstore accepts VISA and MasterCard orders over the telephone. There is an additional charge for shipping.

NOTE:
Please refer to your schedule to determine which courses you will be taking. You do not need to purchase textbooks for courses in which you are not registered.
