Course Overview

“Just the facts, ma’am”

You have seen those images in the movies and on television: law enforcement officers who rely more on their instincts than on what they learned in a book. However, real-life law enforcement officers like yourself know that the best promotions are going to those officers who can support their intuition with a formal education. C.O.P.S. – Curriculum Online for Policing Services – is an online program for anyone in a public service position with the criminal justice system, especially those who work rotating shifts that prevent them from taking criminal justice classes on campus. This online curriculum is convenient and manageable since there is noLieutenant Wilton Perez, Campus Police, WakeMed commute to Coastal! Upon completion of our C.O.P.S. online program, students will receive an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Criminal Justice Technology.

The Criminal Justice Technology curriculum is designed to provide knowledge of criminal justice systems and operations. Study focuses on local, state, and federal law enforcement, judicial processes, corrections, and security services. Also, the criminal justice system’s role within society is explored.

Emphasis is on criminal justice systems, criminology, juvenile justice, criminal and constitutional law, investigative principles, ethics, and community relations. Additional study may include issues and concepts of government, counseling, communications, computers, and technology.
