Program Description
The Academy focuses on the basics of effective teaching and institutional planning for the adult learner. It includes topics such as the adult learner, learning styles, effective instructional strategies, presentation techniques, instructional design, and evaluation. The format for class sessions will include instructional lectures, discussions (large and small groups), cooperative learning tasks, and hands-on activities.
The Academy is designed to provide:
- A foundation for effective college teaching.
- Opportunities to actively interact with and receive special assistance from full-time master faculty members.
- An array of teaching and classroom management ideas to help you successfully meet the needs of students.
- Provide support and encouragement.
- Improve what associate faculty already know, understand, and are able to do.
- Provide an atmosphere of free expression and mutual respect.
- Encourage practice and/or adapt to new teaching techniques and ideas.
- Introduce creative uses of technology.
We expect that participation in this teaching academy will build classroom competence and personal confidence, which will, in turn, lead to greater student achievement.
