Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service | January 16

Coastal Carolina Community College will host a day of service event in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day at 9 a.m. on January 16, 2017 at the First Presbyterian Church of Jacksonville. The event is open to the public; no tickets are required.

The event will feature Reverend Joel Churchwell. Rev. Churchwell was born to the late Reverend Gladys P. Churchwell and Deacon John D. Churchwell, November 11, 1961, in Tacoma, Washington.  He graduated from Kendrick High School, in Columbus Georgia and continued his postgraduate studies earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Religion, Masters of Theological Studies and Masters of Divinity, degree from Liberty University, Lynchburg, Virginia.

After serving in the United States Marine Corps, Master Sergeant Churchwell was called to a greater service becoming the tenth pastor of the historic Sandy Run Missionary Baptist Church, a church that is progressively striving to meet the needs of its community.  In addition to serving as the pastor of Sandy Run Missionary Baptist Church, Pastor Churchwell is a leader in Onslow County.  Presently, he actively volunteers and sits on the following community boards; The Consolidates Human Services Advisory Board of Onslow County, Quality Counsel Committee Onslow County Schools, Juvenile Crime Prevention Council, Guardian Ad Liteum 4th Judicial District, Member of Onslow County School Board, Board of Directors United Way Onslow County, Chairperson Community Investment Committee United Way, Post 800 Explorer Club with Jacksonville Public Safety Department.
