Meet the Staff

Patrick Sierer — Department Head Health & Physical Education

Patrick Sierer - PE/Wellness Center Department Head
Hello, my name is Patrick Sierer, and as the Director of the Wellness Department I would like to welcome and ensure all of you the most enjoyable and quality experience possible during your time in our department. Prior to arriving in Jacksonville I received my B.S. in Health Promotion and Education from the University of Cincinnati. After graduating I stayed at UC as an Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach for just over a year. I left UC for graduate school at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill where I received my Masters degree in Exercise Physiology. During my studies I was given an opportunity to move to, and work for, the Arizona State University Strength and Conditioning staff for a short period of time. After returning to Chapel Hill I became a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) by the National Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA), completed my degree, and shortly after accepted the position here at Coastal Carolina Community College as the Department Head for Health & Physical Education, as well as, becoming director of the Wellness Program. Recently my Masters Thesis was published by the NSCA in the January issue of the Journal of Strength & Conditioning Research. In closing I would like to mention that myself, and all of the wellness department staff, encourage you to come use the facilities and promise we will continue striving to develop the best possible Wellness Department we can for you!

Christina Lewis — Wellness Coordinator

Christina Lewis
Hi! My name is Christina Lewis, and I am proud to be the Wellness Coordinator for the college because I love helping the students, faculty, and staff live a healthy lifestyle. I especially love instructing group fitness class at the college. (I would love to see all of you come to our FREE group fitness classes!) I have my B.S. in Exercise Sports Science, Health Fitness Specialist from East Carolina University and I am currently working on my Masters degree in Health Education and Promotion at ECU—GO PIRATES!! Also, I hold a number of professional certifications related to health and fitness because I feel it is important to stay up to date on the latest health and fitness research. My other favorite past time is to either coach or watch my kids play the many sports that they both participate in. If I am not working or spending time with my family, you can find me running or doing some gymnastics!! I live and breathe health and fitness and believe exercise should be like brushing your teeth—something that you do every day!

After school, I plan on joining the Marines as an officer. I am the gym attendant who opens up the gym in the morning, and sometimes closing the gym for the night.

I enjoy meeting new people and making others laugh. Exercise is a fun thing for me, not work. I am majoring in physical education and plan on transferring to ECU after graduating to major in Exercise and Sports Science.

Crystal Leonard — Fitness Room Attendant

Crystal Leanard - Fitness Room Attendant
I am from North Carolina, but my family is originally from Buffalo, New York. I like professional boxing and wrestling. I am also a transfer student and plan to obtain a degree in Music Marketing and Productions. I have two jobs and when I am not working I love to run with my dog. Fitness was not always a priority to me until I enrolled at Coastal. At 18 I was overweight, out of shape, and constantly out of breath walking to class. I decided that I needed a change. So in the summer of 2007, I started going to the gym every morning at 8 a.m. At first it was a slow pace on the treadmill then I worked up to running and lifting weights. I have improved on weight loss, body fat, and strength. I decided in the fall of 2007 to work for the Wellness Department, to help others to not be afraid of going to the gym. Everyone is at a different fitness level and you have to make a conscience effort to change how you look, if you are not satisfied with your appearance. Remember: No one else can sweat for you! You have to do the work.
