Associate in Fine Arts Degree in Visual Arts

The Associate in Fine Arts in Visual Arts degree shall be granted for a planned program of study consisting of a minimum of 60 semester hours of college transfer courses. Within the degree program, the institution shall include opportunities for the achievement of competence in reading, writing, oral communication, fundamental mathematical skills, and basic computer use. General Education Core (25-26 SHC) SHC = Semester Hours Credit The general education core includes study in the areas of humanities and fine arts; social and behavioral sciences; natural sciences and mathematics; and English composition.

Two courses from two discipline areas are required.
One course must be a literature course.

Total Semester Hours Credit (SHC) in Program: 60-61*

For transfer within the North Carolina University System, 60 SHC are guaranteed. The 61st semester hour may or may not transfer depending on the university of choice.

Students must meet the receiving university’s foreign language and/or health and physical education requirements, if applicable, prior to or after transfer to the senior institution.

*All Universal General Education Transfer Component Courses will transfer for equivalency credit to each of the sixteen constituent institutions of the University of North Carolina under the provisions of the NC Comprehensive Articulation Agreement.
